FIAT
Fiat! “May it be done!” This word was
a living Rose for the world, and particularly for you.
The archangel had
completed his heavenly message. I was
overwhelmed by the glory of the grace. I
had only one question in order to preserve my vow of virginity, and that was: “How can this be done?”
The reply satisfied my
concern for chastity – I learned that the Holy Spirit would come upon me, the
power of the Most High would overshadow me, and therefore the Holy One to be
born of me would be called the Son of God.
The archangel did not go
away; he awaited my freely given consent in a respectful attitude – and so… I
considered…this alternative was given to me; either our liberty or your
captivity; but I, comprehending my future sorrows and faintly surmising
something of Calvary, in order to save you, I remembered that the archangel had
told me that the Kingdom of God would have no end; and I saw you there, my child,
across the ages falling into hell if I refused my consent.
What did I feel at that
time?
My soul thrilled with a
most ardent love; my heart burned with gratitude. Crossing my hands upon my breast, lowering my
eyes trembling with holy joy, I exclaimed, “Behold
the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto
me according to thy word.”
